When is it used?

  • Education → for fee concessions, scholarships, or reservations (EWS, OBC, etc.).
  • Government schemes → subsidies, ration benefits, housing schemes.
  • Court or legal proceedings → where proof of income is required.
  • Bank/loans → sometimes asked for as a supporting document.

Purpose of this affidavit

  • To act as a self-declaration of income where direct salary slips, ITR, or employer's certificates are insufficient or not available.
  • Helps the revenue authorities issue the official Income Certificate needed to claim benefits.

Other documents usually attached

  • ID proof: Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN.
  • Address proof: Ration Card, Electricity Bill, Rent Agreement.
  • Employment proof: Salary slip, Employer Certificate, Form 16, or ITR.

  • Some states require this affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper (₹10–₹20).
  • Notary attestation or Oath Commissioner attestation is mandatory.
  • Validity of Income Certificate is usually 1 year (varies by state).
