Why is this affidavit used?

  • To declare and confirm your residential address when no other valid proof is available or when authorities specifically ask for it.
  • It works as a self-declaration on oath before a notary or magistrate.

When is it used?

  • Government applications → PAN card, Passport, Voter ID, Aadhaar corrections, Ration Card, Driving License, etc.
  • Court proceedings → when a party needs to show permanent residence.
  • Banking/financial institutions → opening bank accounts, loan applications.
  • Educational institutions → admission forms, scholarships.
  • Employment → sometimes for joining formalities.

Purpose of this affidavit

  • To establish identity and residence proof in absence of, or along with, other documents.
  • To prevent fraud by making the person legally responsible for truthfulness.
  • To serve as an admissible supporting document when official address proof is contested or unavailable.

Other documents often attached

  • Copy of Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Ration Card, Electricity Bill, Rent Agreement, etc. (for corroboration).
  • In the case of rented accommodation, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the landlord may also be asked for.
  • Notary attestation is usually required.

Important things to know

  • This affidavit alone may not be accepted everywhere (example: Passport Seva Kendra generally insists on govt. ID proofs).
  • Misrepresentation in an affidavit = perjury (punishable under BNS).
  • Many departments now allow self-attested copies instead of affidavits, but courts and some govt. offices still require affidavits.

A Notary Public, Oath Commissioner, or Magistrate.

Q3. Is stamp paper required?

Yes, usually ₹10 or ₹20 non-judicial stamp paper (varies by state).

Yes, but it must be clearly mentioned as a "temporary address".

Legal action can be taken for perjury and fraud.
